3/21/08: Friday's off the 405
Pitchfork has a nice little interview with Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood. According to Pitchfork, expect details about 2nd leg of Radiohead's North America tour on...MONDAY! Finally..."spend your limited willpower budget wisely..." I can't decide what I think of this NY Times article about willpower. I do know one thing, you don't have to conduct a study to conclude that individuals given cookies while completing a puzzle will perform better than those given radishes while completing the same puzzle. Read on to find out more... (thanks to kottke.org)
Hollywood Bowl "Buy 5 or More" concert ticket package. Buy 5 or more shows now before the official box office opening date on May 10th and save a TON on service charges...these shows have me thinking it may be a good use of my money: Thievery Corp (6.22), Feist and Sharon Jones (7.20), Gnarls Barkley (7.27), Brian Wilson (9.11-13), Nick Cave (9.17).
Sarah Silverman + More! On April 19th my hero will be performing at the Troubadour as part of the South Toward Home Benefit Concert. STH was created in response to Hurricane Katrina and they devote their efforts to rebuilding the Gulf Coast. The last comedy benefit I attended was an unbelievable, non-stop and hilarious night of comedy and based on the line-up so far, this one will not disappoint. And it's at one of my favorite venues in LA. So far other guests include Bob Odenkirk (of Mr. Show and lots lots more), Tim & Eric, Thomas Lennon (Reno 911) and the LA-band Foreign Born. This could be it, this could be when Sarah and I become lifelong best friends. Amazing.
Reading to Kids. Exactly as the name implies, once a month, volunteers go out to 7 different LA Elementary schools and read to the kids. Reading to Kids "is a grassroots organization dedicated to inspiring underserved children with a love of reading, thereby enriching their lives and opportunities for future success". I attend the reading clubs monthly, it's such a wonderful organization and a fun way to spend your Saturday morning. The kids seem to love going attending each month as well, which is pretty cool because I would have hated going to school on a Saturday at that age. Each child receives a brand new book to take home too at the end of each reading club. Next reading club is this Saturday, April 12.
I can't keep up with all the amazing things going on in this fine city...
